Waimea Canyon Bomb

Aloha from Kauai!
Since our last posting we have spent a lot of time at the pool and playing games. Ben is still trying to spear a fish so he is in the ocean at least once a day and some of my time is spent at the beach.

After our adventurous day yesterday, we spent a lazy day by the pool. Ben kicked my butt in cribbage and then went spearfishing. He came back fishless and kicked my butt again. :-)

Yesterday we went on our first organized adventure. We took a downhill bike ride from the top of Waimea Canyon (3500 ft) back to sea level. It was so much fun. We met up with our group at the shop in Poipu and took a van up to the top of the mountain. There we got some great shots of the canyon. We then donned our helmets, mounted our cruisers and started our 12 mile downhill ride. The road was curvy, but not too steep. The only times we had to do any pedaling was on a few of the straight-aways.

Ben had a great time! He was directly behind our guide and ready to whiz past if given the chance. Surprisingly, I wasn't the rider at the end of the pack and I truly enjoyed myself. There was a couple from New Jersey and they were hilariously slow. They were more like hood ornaments on our chaperon van than bike riders. The lady was so scared, no one could figure out why she was even on the ride. In all, it was close to a perfect day. The weather was fabulous, the ride was amazing, and the guides were great.

We finished our perfect day with a wonderful meal at a restaurant in Poipu called Plantation Garden. The restaurant was surrounded by some amazing orchid gardens and koi ponds. We had dinner on the lanai overlooking the gardens and ponds. The setting was majestic and the dinner was delicious.

Ben had the Ono with mixed vegetables and topped with a coconut curry sauce.

I had the tiger prawns with risotto, soy beans and a lemon cream sauce. YUMMY!

And here's a doozy for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy until next time~
